   <description><![CDATA[<img src="http://www.autoebid.com/autoenews/newsThumbs/news-3547.gif"><br/>A new Porsche Centre is set to open in Portsmouth later this year to serve customers in the south coast territory of England. <br/><br/> The development demonstrates a major investment in the Porsche business and the local region, Porsche said. <br/><br/> The two storey Porsche Centre Portsmouth occupies nearly two acres and will feature a 26 car showroom with rooftop parking, an eight ramp workshop and an MOT bay. <br/><br/> In addition, there will be a Direct Dialogue bay, a dedicated area where a car can receive immediate, on the spot diagnosis by a Porschetrained Technician prior to any necessary work commencing. <br/><br/> The new Centre will also offer the full range of Porsche services including new and preowned Porsche Approved car sales, servicing, parts, a service loan fleet and a full range of Porsche demonstrators. <br/><br/> In addition, local collection and delivery will ensure any servicing or repairs are conducted with minimal inconvenience to the customer. <br/><br/> A wide array of items from the Porsche Design Drivers Selection range of clothing and accessories will be on display in the showroom.    <title>New Toyota Yaris goes hybrid</title>
   <description><![CDATA[<img src="http://www.autoebid.com/autoenews/newsThumbs/news-3546.gif"><br/>The new Toyota Yaris Hybrid will come fitted with a hybrid powertrain but the company assures this is not at the cost of cabin space. <br/><br/>  Toyota said the result was a more compact version of its Hybrid Synergy Drive system in use in larger models such as Prius and Auris Hybrid. <br/><br/>  Toyota confirmed it had undertaken extensive Ramp;D work for the new Toyota Yaris Hybrid to produce what it believes is an efficient, full hybrid system for Yaris using a petrol engine and electric motor with a total power output of 99bhp (74kW). <br/><br/>  The system uses a new 1.5litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine that weighs 16.5kg less and is 10 per cent more compact than the 1.8litre unit used in Prius and Auris. <br/><br/>Other major components such as the electric motor, power control unit and transaxle were also made lighter and smaller: the size of the motor has been reduced by 20 per cent and the PCU12 per cent as compared to those in Auris Hybrid. <br/><br/>  The new Toyota Yaris Hybrid will go on sale in the UK in June. <br/><br/>  ]]></description>

The lower part of the grille can be fitted with static cornering lights integrated with the fog lights and LEDs provide an eyecatching daytime lighting signature. <br/><br/> The models side mirrors have also been updated with a more aerodynamic design to help reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.    <title>Ford commits to lowering landfill and water waste</title>
   <description><![CDATA[<img src="http://www.autoebid.com/autoenews/newsThumbs/news-3538.gif"><br/>Ford Motor Company has committed to making considerable cuts in the waste it sends to landfill, as well as the water it uses, across its European production facilities, it was announced. <br/><br/>  The company said it will significantly increase the proportion of waste recycled and reused while cutting landfill waste by 70 per cent. The new measure would mean a reduction in the average landfill waste generated per vehicle to 1.5kg by 2016, from 5kg in 2011. <br/><br/>  Ford said its environmental team at the ISO14001accredited Ford Dagenham Estate in the UK is actively pursuing Ford of Europes environmental objectives. It said 85 per cent of the annual waste produced at Dagenham (5,937 tonnes in 2011) is recycled with the remaining15 per cent going to the landfill. <br/><br/>  The company expects the virtual elimination of all of the remaining 15 per cent landfill should the oil reclamation process being worked on by the Dagenham Engine Plant be successful. <br/><br/>  In addition, the company has promised to reduce water use by 30 per cent based on an annual production of 1.2 million vehicles thereby saving an estimated 2.3 million over the same period and approximately 1.3 billion litres per year, which would equate to an average saving of 1,100 litres for each car or van produced. <br/><br/>  Chairman and CEO of Ford of Europe Stephen Odell said: This plan represents our pledge to minimise Fords impact on the environment both before and after our customers get behind the wheel. This goes hand in hand with our commitment to develop the most fuel efficient vehicles. Sustainability makes just as much sense for Ford as a business as it does for the environment. <br/><br/>  The announcement builds upon previous actions that have helped Ford of Europe become the global companys lowest producer of landfill waste. The company said it has cut landfillwaste generation by 40 per cent since 2007 and reduced water use by 37 per cent over the same period. <br/><br/>  Ford of Europe Manufacturing Director Dirk Heller Sustainable processes enable us to make car production leaner and more costefficient. The seats too have a double layer fabric with a white background colour visible through the perforated leather facing. <br/><br/>  The new Nissan Juke Shiro exterior will have dark grey 17inch alloy wheels with the satin silver finish to the door handles and mirror caps alongside a gloss black finish to the Bpillar. Available in all colours offered on Juke models, Shiro will have one additional colour in Nightshade, a deep aubergine colour. <br/><br/>  Prices for the new Nissan Juke Shiro will begin at 17,695 with deliveries expected from 1 March 2012. The factory now also produces Sportage and Venga. <br/><br/> EekHee Lee, president and CEO of Kia Motors Slovakia, said: Kia Motors Slovakia has achieved an important milestone in its history with the production of the millionth car. We decided to donate the new Kia ceed SW to an organisation which will bring pleasure to children during their stay in hospitals. <br/><br/> Kia Motors Slovakia reported a 10 per cent yearonyear increase in car production and a 12 per cent yearonyear increase in engine production during 2011, when it produced more than 252,000 cars and 359,000 engines. The factory plans to produce around 285,000 cars this year. <br/><br/> The company said new Kia Sportage production in 2011 topped 101,000 units, representing 40 per cent of the overall production.    <description><![CDATA[<img src="http://www.autoebid.com/autoenews/newsThumbs/news-3523.gif"><br/>Spanish firm Hiriko has chosen Axeon, Europes independent supplier of lithiumion battery systems, to supply batteries for its prototype electric vehicles. <br/><br/>  To be built in VitoriaGasteiz, the urban electric twoseaters feature a unique folding design that allows them to park in a very limited space, with a single access door at the front of the vehicle and an advanced steerbywire system, which removes all mechanical steering components. <br/><br/>  During the first quarter of 2012, Axeon will supply each Hiriko prototype with two powerful lithiumion batteries mounted in parallel, one in each half of the vehicle, with electric wheelmounted motors providing fourwheel steering and fourwheel drive. <br/><br/>  Hiriko intends to franchise its production model to enable the vehicles to be locally and sustainably produced by a number of consortia in different markets. <br/><br/>Hiriko urban electric vehicles will be particularly targeted at large cities in which they will be available for rental. In 2012, the vehicles will be homologated and the prototypes will be tested in cities around the world, with the expectation that they will come to market in 2013. <br/><br/>  Lawrence Berns, Axeon CEO, said: We are delighted to be involved in this exciting and pioneering project with Hiriko.    <title>Honda sells 800K hybrid units</title>
   <description><![CDATA[<img src="http://www.autoebid.com/autoenews/newsThumbs/news-3522.gif"><br/>Honda has sold more than 800,000 hybrid vehicles since the first generation new Honda Insight hit the road in November 1999, the company announced. <br/><br/>  Stating that it was the first manufacturer to launch a hybrid model, it said the new Honda Insight delivered 83 miles per gallon (EU Combined Cycle) giving it the highest fuel economy among all petrol powered vehicles at the time. <br/><br/>  The company now sells seven hybrid models in 50 countries with all of the models equipped with Hondas original lightweight and compact IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) hybrid system. <br/><br/>  In the UK, Honda has reportedly sold more than 22,000 hybrids since the original new Honda Insight was launched in 2000. The current hybrid line up now consists of the CRZ, Jazz Hybrid and Insight. <br/><br/>    Hondas annual worldwide hybrid sales for 2011 was said to be 200,000 units (up 30 per cent compared to 2010), and Hondas total hybrid sales during the last three years exceeded 500,000.    <title>Increasing number of RollsRoyce clients using bespoke personalisation</title>
   <description><![CDATA[<img src="http://www.autoebid.com/autoenews/newsThumbs/news-3520.gif"><br/>More than half of clients who bought a new RollsRoyce Ghost in 2011 turned to bespoke personalisation, the luxury car maker reported. <br/><br/>It said the service, which includes anything from the application of unique paint colours, coach lines and tread plates to whole vehicle designs featuring champagne sets, humidors and picnic cabinets, allowed the company to achieve record sales last year. <br/><br/>  In total, 56 per cent of new RollsRoyce Ghost and Ghost Extended Wheelbase models sold around the world featured bespoke design in 2011. <br/><br/>  According to the company, the move to highly personalised new RollsRoyce Ghost models follows an increase in sales of bespoke Phantom family cars last year. <br/><br/>  More than eight in every ten RollsRoyce Phantom models are examined by the teams designers and craftspeople, before being delivered to a client. In some markets in the Middle East every Phantom featured bespoke content. <br/><br/>  Torsten Mllertvs, RollsRoyce CEO, said: It is always our goal to exceed our clients highest expectations and fulfill their innermost desires. <br/><br/>  With highly bespoke Phantom and Ghost models, we are able to achieve this. The passion with which our bespoke craftspeople create these beautiful cars is reflected in some truly outstanding examples delivered across the globe last year. <br/><br/>  The proportion of Phantom family cars with bespoke content delivered to Middle Eastern clients rose from 75 per cent in 2005 to 99 per cent last year, while in Europe the figure increased from 50 per cent to 89 per cent. <br/><br/>  In North America numbers rose from 30 per cent to 84 per cent over the same period and in Asia Pacific from 50 per cent to 79 per cent. In the UK, the third largest single market for RollsRoyce Motor Cars, the proportion of Phantom family cars featuring bespoke content increased from 60 per cent to 88 per cent. <br/><br/>  In August 2011 RollsRoyce announced an expansion of its bespoke operation to meet growing demand, doubling the number of bespoke experts working at the Home of RollsRoyce in Goodwood by the end of the year. <br/><br/>The company said it is also about to expand its manufacturing facility as a result in demand increase for bespoke cars with work expected to begin next month. <br/><br/>  ]]></description>

Euro enlisted the help of talented designer Kyle Bean and director Joseph Mann to create a graphic, paper world. The production uses stop frame animation to show a Peugeot avoiding all the hassles that are associated with running a car. <br/><br/>  Managed by OMD the multimillion pound media campaign will also see radio spots across a wide range of networks beginning in January, supported by a digital and print media campaign.    <title>British parents risking childrens safety with forward facing car seats</title>
   <description><![CDATA[<img src="http://www.autoebid.com/autoenews/newsThumbs/news-3515.gif"><br/>Motors.co.uk is calling for the Government, retailers and manufacturers to take more responsibility in educating parents on childrens car seats, and also to accommodate the availability of more Group 1 rear facing models in the UK. <br/><br/>  Despite studies stating that rear facing car seats are up to five times safer for children, research from Motors.co.uk shows a lack of awareness, information and availability of Group 1 rear facing car seats in the UK. <br/><br/>  Legal guidelines in the Nordics and US advise parents to keep their child in a rear facing car seat until the age of four (optimal weight 1625kg), following several studies revealing that children are significantly safer from serious injury or death during a collision while travelling in this manner. <br/><br/>  However, a study by Motors.co.uk of 1,000 parents revealed that 70 per cent of UK parents were unaware that rear facing car seats were available for children of this age, and were also not familiar with the safety benefits. <br/><br/>  The studys key findings state over half (52 per cent) of parents would buy a rear facing car seat for their child if they were more widely available in the UK; nearly half (43 per cent) of parents call for the UK government to officially advise parents to keep their child in a rearward facing car seat until the age of four; over half (53 per cent) of parents claimed that information on rearward facing car seats in the UK is inconsistent or confusing. <br/><br/>  When quizzed on the reason for the current limited availability of Group 1 models in Britain, car seat manufacturers have cited a lack of demand; however the consumer research highlights a clear demand for the product and a need for consistent and reliable information on the issue. <br/><br/>  ]]></description>

   <description><![CDATA[<img src="http://www.autoebid.com/autoenews/newsThumbs/news-3497.gif"><br/>Nissan launched its selfhealing iPhone case. <br/><br/>The new Nissan Scratch Shield iPhone case features the brands selfhealing paint finish, said to be a world first in paint technology developed in 2005 and already in use on a number of Nissan and Infiniti models. <br/><br/> The Japanese car manufacturer has applied the same groundbreaking technology to the smartphone, a product prone to scratches through everyday use. <br/><br/>  Developed by Nissan in collaboration with University of Tokyo and Advanced Softmaterials, the new Nissan Scratch Shield paint finish was initially designed for automotive use and is available on the Nissan Murano, 370Z and XTrail along with the Infiniti range of products. <br/><br/> However, this technology is being trialed for the first time on a nonautomotive product in Europe, with the Nissan Scratch Shield iPhone case. <br/><br/>  The Nissan Scratch Shield iPhone case has been designed using automotive engineering innovations so as to deliver a more durable and longlasting paint coat, and closely fitting, tight case. <br/><br/>  Nissan said the new Nissan Scratch Shield iPhone case three key benefits will be the highly flexible and elastic properties of Scratch Shield paint technology that will allow fine scratches to quickly mend themselves; its tactile gellike rather than glossy surface which will be more scratchresistant than conventional paint, providing a better grip; and the case itself, which will be made of ABS plastic  a high grade substance widely used in the automotive industry which is more rigid and robust than other plastics. <br/><br/>The outer paint is made from polyrotaxane meaning that when damage occurs to the coating in the form of a fine scratch, the chemical structure is able to react to change back to its original shape and fill the gap  healing the blemish. <br/><br/>  An initial batch of prototypes of the innovative Scratch Shield iPhone cases has been produced by Nissan for BETA testing with selected journalists and customers, but if demand proves strong, it will look to put the cases on general sale later this year. <br/><br/>  Bob Laishley, overseas programme director business development for Nissan in Europe, said: We like to think laterally by taking the great innovations weve got from an automotive point of view, and looking at how they could be applied to improve everyday issues. The Scratch Shield iPhone case is a great example of us taking a Nissan automotive technology that has had a huge impact for our customers, and then shifting the boundaries to apply it to another everyday product. <br/><br/>  Were really excited about the possibilities provided by this technology. In Japan, weve already linked up with worldleading mobile operator NTT DoCoMo to allow them to use the Scratch Shield technology on its Style Series N03B mobile phones, and we think this technology has real scope beyond the automotive world.    <title>Nissan 2011 European sales creates record</title>
   <description><![CDATA[<img src="http://www.autoebid.com/autoenews/newsThumbs/news-3494.gif"><br/>Nissan broke its sales record for Europe in 2011 by achieving best ever market share in the region and surpassing 2010 by more than 140,000 units, the company announced. <br/><br/>  Nissan said that in the 2011 calendar year it posted European sales of 695,702 units, 25 per cent up on its previous record of 2010. <br/><br/>  The rise resulted in an average market share over the JanuaryDecember period of 3.7 per cent, setting yet another record and topping 2010 by 0.6 per cent. <br/><br/>The Japanese automobile manufacturer said it had also ended the year strongly with December sales of 57,493 units, thereby outselling its 2010 total in each month of 2011. <br/><br/>  Paul Willcox, senior vice president sales and marketing in Europe, said: Despite the significant challenges we faced in 2011, including the devastating earthquake in Japan, Nissan has never been stronger in Europe. The increase is effective immediately. <br/><br/>Fiats interest in Chrysler is 58.5 per cent with the remaining 41.5 per cent of Chryslers equity owned by VEBA.<br/><br/>To achieve this Ecological Event Chrysler was required to receive regulatory approval for an automobile based on a Fiat platform or vehicle technology having a fuel efficiency rating of at least 40 combined miles per gallon and to irrevocably commit to begin assembly in commercial quantities in the US.<br/><br/>In late December Chrysler achieved the Fuel Economy Test for an unadjusted combined rating of 40 miles per gallon with a preproduction version of the Dodge Dart, based upon Fiat architecture technology.<br/><br/>Last week Chrysler issued an irrevocable commitment to the US Department of the Treasury to begin assembly of such vehicle in a production facility located in the US. <br/><br/> Fiat S.p.A. and Chrysler Group CEO, Sergio Marchionne, said: The acquisition of a further five per cent of Chrysler is a fundamental step in completion of the integration between our two groups. <br/><br/> We have worked hard on achievement of the Ecological Event over the past two and a half years and we are particularly proud of this accomplishment because it represents repayment of the trust placed in Fiat to introduce its fuelefficient cars and engines to the US market. <br/><br/> The commitment to ecological and sustainable mobility, which has made Fiat the most ecoperforming automaker in Europe, is integral to our business strategy.    <description><![CDATA[<img src="http://www.autoebid.com/autoenews/newsThumbs/news-3488.gif"><br/>The new Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid debuted at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, bringing electric drive to a new class of Volkswagen. <br/><br/> The cars propulsion is derived from a hightech 1.4litre TSI 150 PS petrol engine and a 20 kW zeroemissions electric motor. <br/><br/> According to Volkswagen, the two features together provide a fuel consumption that is around 20 per cent better overall than an equivalent petrolpowered vehicle (at 45 mpg US  around 54 mpg Imperial), and a sporty performance, with the benchmark 0 to 60 mph sprint taking less than nine seconds. <br/><br/> The new Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid is a parallel hybrid that uses a decoupling clutch which can disengage the petrol motor for pure electric drive (or when coasting or braking), disengage the electric motor (for higher speeds or when the battery charge is low), or combine the two units for maximum power. <br/><br/> Using electric power alone, the Jetta Hybrid can be driven at speeds of up to 70 kmh (44 mph) and over a distance of two kilometres (1.3 miles), depending on conditions. For maximum performance, both the TSI engine and the electric motor combine, giving peak power of 170 PS. <br/><br/> This is the first use of the 1.4litre turbocharged engine in America, and it offers the same power and more torque (250 Nm, 184 lbs ft) than the normally aspirated 2.5litre engine that is commonly used in the Jetta there. <br/><br/> The new Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid launches in North America in November 2012 but there are no current plans to sell this model in the UK. <br/><br/> ]]></description>
