Great Numbers for the New MG6

For some the first week of September means a new school term, a return to the office grind, or just the official end of summer. For others it’s all about the excitement of a new set of wheels. Yes, 1 September 2011 is the magical date that signals the launch of the ’61 plate. MG Motor UK thinks it’s come up with another reason to make you invest in a new MG6.
All new MG6 models sold during September will benefit from MG Motor UK’s three-year fixed price servicing cover for just £199. On top of this, the latest MGs also offer reduced premiums for most drivers — thanks to very low insurance group ratings of 13E, and 14E on top TSE models.
According to MG, these financial incentives are just the icing on the cake for cash-conscious buyers. Marketing Manager Clint Cordle says: “When you look at all the kit fitted to the cars as standard it’s amazing and would cost up to £6,000 on some competitor vehicles.”
Let’s look a little closer at what you get with the MG6 GT in TSE specification:
- 18 inch alloy wheels
- electric seat adjustment for driver and front passenger
- iTPMS tyre pressure monitoring
- automatic dual-zone air conditioning
- built in sat nav with full colour display and full European mapping
Oh, and don’t forget about those leather sports seats.
Prices on the MG6 GT fastback range start from £15,459 for the S model; £16,995 for the SE; and £18,995 for the TSE.
If you like the look of a MG6 Magnette, these four-door sports saloons range from £15,995 for the S; £17,495 for the SE; and £19,995 for the TSE.
Whichever model you choose, enjoy the novelty of that ’61 plate on your new MG6 and the knowledge that it was designed and engineered close to home in Birmingham — Motor City UK.

New Mazda6 Business Line — with RV uplift
Though “RV uplift” sounds like the kind of boost routinely offered by lingerie manufacturers, it’s a major incentive for car buyers in these cash-strapped times. The new Mazda6 Business Line is being billed as fun to drive, stylish and good news for your pocket because it’s been designed with an eye on resale.
Mazda has deliberately gone for high specs on this 2.2-litre diesel five-door hatchback, which is specifically targeted at fleets. So, you’ll get 17-inch alloy wheels, Sanyo TomTom® satellite navigation and (of course) Bluetooth. While you might be excited about these features, their inclusion is really more about enhancing the vehicle’s appeal to the next owner down the line — so don’t get too attached.
Other features to look out for include:
The green credentials of the new Mazda6 Business Line are important, too. It emits 138g/km of CO2, placing it in the 20 percent benefit-in-kind tax bracket for the current tax year.
If colour matters to you, the three options are Black Mica, Sunlight Silver Metallic and Stormy Blue Mica. This is based on what most company car drivers choose — something that may not please those who like to make more of a splash when they’re out on the road.
Here’s the real bonus, though: CAP estimates that the new Mazda6 Business Line will trounce its direct competitors by retaining an impressive 34 per cent of its P11D value (£18,130). According to Monitor-Cars editor Jeff Knight, this gives the vehicle “kerb appeal in the future used car market”.
This is the first time that Mazda has developed a model targeted at company car drivers. It is hoping to sell 500 models before the end of 2011, with estimated annual sales of 1,000 units.
Will the knowledge that you’re losing money at a slower rate than other motorists make you enjoy your new new Mazda6 Business Line even more? Let us know.

Vauxhall’s Ampera has been charged and will drive to the Geneva Motor Show will it make it ?

In what could be major PR gamble Vauxhall have just announced that their prototype electric car the Ampera (subtle play on amp) has been charged, and will attempt to drive the 370-mile journey from Rüsselsheim, Germany, to the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland, without emitting CO2.
At the wheel of this gargantuan challenge will be Opel/Vauxhall Director of Electric Vehicle Implementation, Gherardo Corsini, he said:”I am really looking forward to putting a lot of miles on our first Ampera prototype during this maiden test on public roads.
“With 370 Nm of instantaneous, electric torque under my right foot, it promises to be an interesting and almost silent drive to Geneva.”
With the news of a whopping £5000 discount for ultra-low carbon emitting cars, this presents a real opportunity to win over sceptics who don’t see the technologies viability.
Opel/Vauxhall bloggers will join the brave Ghersado Corsini on his journey which will start 9.30am on Saturday, February 28 and you cam follow their success or failure by checking their blog here www.opel.posterous.com or you can follow them on twitter here.
Green car guide welcomes Plug-in Car Grants
Leading green car guide, TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk has welcomed the announcement of the the green car incentive scheme.
Commenting, the website’s editor, Faye Sunderland said: “This support is essential to help the UK move towards a low carbon future. We are now reliant on the carmakers to ensure that the eligible vehicles are available to consumers when the grants come available next year.
Rumours are swirling around the internet that one of the first car to be eligible for the significant discount will be BMW’s Mini E, which was unveiled a couple of weeks ago at 10 downing street.
“The Plugged-in Places scheme is crucial to sustain the use of eligible vehicles so we hope to see this make significant impact on how our towns and cities prepare for the electric car revolution set to start in 2011.” she added.
