Video: Why you should always stop at Toll booths

A suspected drunk driver has been caught on video taking a rather unusual route at a US toll booth – going over rather than through.
The Dukes of Hazzard-style jump was caught on camera at the north toll plaza on the way out of Dallas Fort Worth airport last week.
The driver caught the concrete divider that separates one toll booth from another, which launched the Chevrolet Impala into a barrel-roll jump. The car then clipped the top of the toll booth before landing on the other side as a fiery wreck.
Fortunately the toll booth operator wasn’t hurt at all, while the driver – Yasmine Villisana – amazingly suffered only minor injuries.
We suppose the moral of the story is that you’d better be careful about the in-flight movies you watch – it might give you strange ideas. Although Dukes of Hazzard was probably a better choice than Die Hard would have been…*
*we joke – we have no idea whether Ms Villisana had even been on a flight, let alone her choice of in-flight entertainment…

Horrific crash cancels Lamborghini race series

Touted by Lamborghini as “the world’s fastest one-make series”, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo championship has been shelved after a horrific crash at Brno in the Czech Republic.
The glamorous Lamborghini series, intended for well-heeled privateer ‘gentlemen drivers’, is now in its second year and uses a race-prepped 570hp version of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, called the Super Trofeo.
But a horrific crash involving driver Giorgio Bartocci has so shocked organisers they’ve decided to pull the plug and cancel the remaining three races in the series.
Bartocci’s car spun, hit the pit wall and burst into flames at the Czech circuit but concern has been expressed at the apparent failure of some of the Gallardo SuperTrofeo’s safety systems.
Bartocci was partially flung from the car as it disintegrated around him, suggesting the harnesses and safety cage didn’t protect him as they should have. He’s now in intensive car, described as being in a “stable” condition.
The blaze that engulfed the Gallardo is also worrying, given the fuel cells and other safety gear modern race cars carry intended to prevent such fires. Bartocci was pulled from the car by fellow racers who jumped over the pitwall to rescue him.

Moto Dominos: Nine riders go down in Moto2

Amazing footage of a 9-man crash from Moto2 landed on our desk today, it would seem that the crash was cause by an oil leak. The incident happen last weekend during a race at Jerez
A crash that sent Shoya Tomizawa and Simone Corsi to the ground spilled a fair bit of crankcase oil onto the track, which in turn caused a domino-like array of low-slides directly behind. In total nine riders went down in the wake of the spill.
Fortunately, the race was red-flagged and nobody was seriously injured.

Racing driver down under has lucky escape
The blurred picture above is a racing spec Mini doing cart wheels as it crashed out on the last lap. The car, driven by Kain Margo in a Mini Challenge support race for a V8 Supercar round at Queenland Raceway in Australia.
The car flipped and cart wheeled down the track numerous times through the sand-trap, over the fence and then into the crowd. Incredibly no one was killed, and only two spectators were taken hospital with minor cuts and the driver was left unhurt.

Pagani’s new monster spotted – testing back on track after smash

Pagani’s replacement for the bonkers Zonda has been spotted whilst being tested on public roads – this comes two weeks after their engineers were picking pieces of it off the ground after it was crashed on the auto-bahn at high-speed.

According to Horacio Pagani, the founder of Pagani Automobili S.p.A the C9 will be “a brand-new car from concept, weight distribution, materials and dynamics.”
You will be sat behind a Mercedes-sourced 6-litre twin turbo V12 that produced 700 raging horses. And 0-62 will be hit in under three seconds.
Production of the new C9 is scheduled for late 2010 and expect to see it unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October.

Karma strikes crazy Jaguar driver

A crazy Jaguar driver in Spain had a lucky escape last week when he lost control of his S-Type Jaguar and rolled it five times.
The amazing footage was captured by a car in the next lane and clearly show the Jag thundering along the motorway as he overtakes the other car he begins to lose control, he over compensates and crashes 30k Jag.
The car as you can imagine was totalled and the driver luckily was left unhurt, but he probably needs to come up with a decent explanation when he contacts his insurance company.
We for one would have loved to heard that phone call.
