“Good people carrying saloon but manual control of gears is ineeffective in extreme conditions (eg snow and ice). The car thinks it knows best and will change down to 2nd gear below a particular speed, even though the engine is generating too much torque for the conditions. Unfortunately BMW haven't learnt as much as they should have done from their ownership of Land Rover. ”
New BMW X5 Review:

The BMW X5 has earned a reputation as being somewhat "Footballer's Wives" due to its image as the ultimate Chelsea Tractor - but that's no real surprise when considering the outstanding all-round abilities of this chic off-roader. Whilst most buyers would never venture anywhere near the dirt, the X5 has real ability off-road, although it's on the tarmac that it really struts its stuff. The ride is overtly sporty (especially with the sports suspension) but it means the car handles well with little body roll and plenty of grunt from under the bonnet. The 3.0 diesel is the most popular, with the outstanding oil burning unit combining plenty of torque with excellent refinement. The specification is high and although prices are equally high, residual values are set to be good - plus the seven seat versatility makes it especially desirable.Discounts are still small because of limited allocations as a new model, although they will increase over time.
