New CADILLAC BLS Review:
The BLS is Cadillac's attempt at a medium-sized saloon.

The styling is distinctive and it is certainly a good choice if you want to stand out from the crowd, while equipment levels are generous too.

However, there’s not much else to recommend the BLS. It is dull to drive, looks and feels dated inside, and has a limited network of dealership.

There are five engine choices in the BLS, two diesel and three petrol from the 1.9 D to the powerful 2.8T V6.

The standard gearbox on all models is a six-speed manual with an automatic transmission available as an option.

The BLS appears to be well built with the extensive use of soft-touch, dense-quality trim giving the cabin a luxurious feel.

The BLS is relatively comfortable on smooth motorways, but dull steering and soggy handling mean it is not much fun when the road turns twisty.

It is so because on more demanding and twisty roads its weaknesses become all too evident.

The pay-off for this soft suspension is a very smooth ride and a ability to iron out rough roads.

With a generally good ride and lots of interior space, the BLS is good over long distances. However, there is not much room for front-seat passengers.

The number of Cadillac dealers in the UK is low too, so if you are after a BLS you may find you have to travel. But once there you should expect to get a very healthy discount on a new purchase.

The Cadillac brand is relatively new to the UK which makes predictions about its future residuals less certain. A top spec diesel engine model would be the one to hold its value best.

GREEN CREDENTIALS

The BLS is quite a polluting model and with an average of 205g/km CO2 across the line-up, its emissions are a touch high. The greenest model is the 1.9-litre diesel with 180bhp and it emits 151g/km of CO2 returning 50mpg.
