CHRYSLER background and news
Chrysler Group, LLC is an American automobile manufacturer headquartered in the Detroit suburb of Auburn Hills, Michigan.
Chrysler was first organised as the Chrysler Corporation in 1925.
From 1998 to 2007, Chrysler and its subsidiaries were part of the Germany-based DaimlerChrysler AG.
Under DaimlerChrysler, the company was named DaimlerChrysler Motors Company LLC, with its US operations generally referred to as the Chrysler Group.
By 2001 and as of 2009, the company has three marques worldwide: Dodge, Jeep, and Chrysler.
The company helped create the ‘muscle-car’ market in the US, first by producing a street version of its Hemi racing engine and then by introducing a legendary string of affordable but high-performance vehicles such as the Plymouth GTX, Plymouth Road Runner, and Dodge Charger.
The racing success of several of these models on the NASCAR circuit burnished the company's engineering reputation.
At the beginning of December 2008, amid the 2008 automobile crisis, Chrysler announced that they were dangerously low on cash and may not survive past 2009.
On December 19, former US president George W. Bush announced a $13.4 billion rescue loan for the American automakers, including Chrysler.
On March 30, 2009 President Barack Obama issued a US Government guarantee of Chrysler's warranty liabilities, and publicly stated the US Government would back the warranties on Chrysler vehicles if the company were to go out of business.
There are five Chrysler models are available including the 300c in saloon or touring version, the Sebring in saloon or convertible version, and the very famous Grand Voyager.
GREEN CREDENTIALS
Chrysler is currently planning at least three hybrid vehicles.
Chrysler plans to use hybrid technology developed jointly with General Motors and BMW AG in vehicles beyond the two hybrid SUVs it had already announced to introduce in 2008.
At the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Chrysler unveiled the 200C EV Concept.
If Chrysler does release an all-electric sports car in 2010, it will be in direct competition with two North American startup companies: Tesla Motors and Fisker Automotive.
