Whilst it certainly hasn't been designed to go too near the brown stuff, it is very much at home on the road with good handling and excellent refinement. Should you wish to venture into the mud, the 4x4 system will be perfectly adequate but it simply can't match up to the Land Rover Freelander's off-road prowess. That's not an issue for most people and instead the benefit of Honda engineering, superb reliability and generous equipment levels make the CR-V a tempting proposition, plus its lively diesel is a joy to drive.The Toyota RAV 4, Hyundai Santa Fe and Land Rover Freelander are strong competition to the CR-V - but it stands up to scrutiny and is available with good discounts from Honda dealers in the reverse auction.
