New HONDA INSIGHT Review:
When looking into the hybrid market often only one name gets banded around – now, the Toyota Prius has a new rival, Honda’s Insight. A five-door hatchback and sporting the same green credentials as it’s counterpart, the Insight is a genuine contender to challenge the Prius. First of all, the Honda is cheaper, with prices starting from just over £15,000 on the Autoebid website. The Insight also has a generous amount of space inside, boasting a superiorly large cabin and boot area. The stand-out exclusive feature that sits on the dash is a digital dial which tells you just how green your driving style is. Not surprisingly, the Insight gives an impressive 64.2mpg, a product of Honda’s duel-engine system. It’s Integrated Motor Assist drivetrain is attached to a 1.3 litre, 88bhp petrol engine alongside a 13bhp electric motor. The blend results in a rather sluggish drive and though the handling is an improvement on Honda’s previous attempt, it still falls way short of it’s non-hybrid five-seater competitors such as the Focus or Astra. However, if you’re starting to feel that green is the way to go, the Insight could be a smart choice. A respectable family car with a good build quality, it has been given the lowest tax bracket too.
