JEEP background and news
Jeep is an automobile brand (and registered trademark) of Chrysler. It is the oldest off-road vehicle brand. Jeep was first designed and manufactured by Willys-Overland in 1941 as a general purpose go-anywhere off-road vehicle.
The original vehicle which first appeared as the prototype Bantam BRC became the primary light four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle of the US Army and allies during the World War II and postwar period.
Many vehicles serving similar military and civilian roles have since been created by many nations.
Many suggest that soldiers at the time were so impressed with the new vehicles that they informally named it after Eugene the Jeep, a character in the Popeye cartoons that could go anywhere.
The Jeep has been copied around the world, including in France by Delahaye and by Hotchkiss & Cie, and in Japan by Mitsubishi Motors. There were several versions created, including a railway jeep and an amphibious jeep.
Most of Jeep’s owners modify their vehicle to improve its capabilities. Like some install larger tyres that help increase the ground clearance of the Jeep, allowing it to traverse even larger and more difficult obstacles.
Others equip theirs with roll-bars, extra lights, and a winch to pull the vehicle out from the mud or sand when stuck.
Jeep’s fan can share their attachment to the brand in several meetings. The most famous of them are the Jamborees and the Camp Jeep.
The first one consist of two days of off-roads events where Jeep owners test theie vehicles limits. The second one is an annual three-day multi-activity event.
Jeep’s range comprises of six models, including the new generation of the legendary Wrangler. Then there is the very famous Cherokee, available in small and long chassis versions followed by the Commander, Patriot and Compass.
