“This car has a firm ride, and on rough surfaces there is quite a lot of road noise. The car handles well, is quite well equiped and the engine pulls really well. However the big dissappointment is that the MPG in no way compares to the manufacturers claims, on mixed motoring I can barely get to 40mpg, this is without harsh acceleration, top speed of 75mph and not too much urban running. When you start the car from cold you notice that no matter how carefully you have driven the MPG drops off rather dramatically and takes some time to build back up again. I have only done 3500 miles since new so I hope that after a service and a few more miles things will improve, they certainly need to.”

New KIA SOUL Review:
The New Kia Soul represents a freshly styled and distinctive looking range of models developed by Kia. Although a supermini it appears considerably bigger due to its tall height and its wheels being pushed towards the corners of the car. The New Kia Soul has the proportions, boxy look and raised seating position of a 4x4, but comes only with front wheel-drive and a choice of either a 1.6-litre petrol or 1.6 diesel engine.

Mechanically The New Kia Soul is conventional – although the suspension has been tailored by Lotus to better suit the UK roads. The styling however is anything but conventional. Trim levels include the Soul 1 and Soul 2, and there are also fashionable décor packs called Tempest, Shaker and Burner, which can be refreshed annually. The Burner, coming in black with red trim, red dash, illuminating stereo speakers and dragon tattoos lavished over the bodywork is the most extrovert. Other features include an optional reverse camera for which the projection appears in the rear view mirror, a glovebox and cubby lined in red, a high power 315watt stereo, roof bars and decal sets.

The New Kia Soul is light and easy to drive, handles tidily (though not as well as the Ford Fiesta) and is relatively quiet. If top-end handling isn’t your biggest priority but a need for a lot of space in a compact package is, then The New Kia Soul is perfect. The colourful styling options also puts The New Kia Soul at an advantage ahead of its inspirations, the BMW Mini and the Fiat 500.
