New ROLLS-ROYCE PHANTOM Review:
The Phantom represents the new era of Rolls-Royce – under BMW ownership since 2003 – it is the first car to be made with the backing of the German manufacturer. Be under no illusions though, whatever fears you may have had about a mass-production company taking hold of such a bespoke marquee as Rolls Royce can be cast aside, for this Phantom is bigger, grander, more technically astute and heftier on the pocket than any recent regular-priced Rolls Royce.

Inside you have the sort of aristocratic quality that you expect from a brand of this unparalleled reputation, with some splendid woodwork and leather trim. The systems are similar to those found in the BMW 7 Series and thus guarantee a certain level of reliability.

It would be impossible to review this car without paying some attention to its initial aesthetic qualities. It’s huge – really a vehicular behemoth, and with that grille and headlights, it calls to mind some prehistoric monster prowling through the wastelands of yore attracting looks from all the cool beasts, easily out-staring any would-be challengers. There’s really quite nothing like it.

The greatest accolade you can pay to any car is not how it looks or how much speed it can achieve (although these remain valuable assets), what we are most concerned with, particularly with regards to a prestige motor is ride quality. And it is here that the Phantom seriously blows everything else out of the water. No car in existence moves with as much grace, poise or silence as this one. Bumps in the road seem to occur somewhere far far away, and to someone else, while passengers can quite happily conduct a conversation at normal levels while driving at speed. When riding up and down over and under hills or crests the ride is not spoiled, there is no pitching or lurching because the car is always under control.
