Subaru have been making solid no-nonsense estates for years and the Outback epitomises this go-anywhere feel by adding improved off-road abilities to the mix. The old Subaru 'rough edges' have now been replaced by a smart, comfortable interior that feels robust and durable - whilst the 2.5 or 3.0-litre petrol units under the bonnet all provide plenty of power. The lack of diesel option differentiates the Subaru from the Volvo XC70 or Audi Allroad - but they miss out on the sharp handling, good grip and overall value for money that the Legacy can offer.
