“I bought this car for practical fun - it has four adult sized seats which is ideal for picking up the kids if necessary and as a tin top you benefit from both a convertible car in the summer and a standard saloon drive in the winter - when the roof is up it drives just like any other car with a rigid chassis. As for the performance I love it - the diesel engine is very responsive and quick without being scary and corners unbelievably well, particularly as speed where it just hugs the road. Can't see me trading it in for a while yet - if I had to be critical then I would say that the auto gearbox is too sensitive around 20-35mph dropping gear without really trying to accelerate quickly and as a result the engine can be a bit growly and the drive therefore not as smooth as other cars - once you get used to its quirks though you'll love it.”

The Volvo C70 is seriously sleek car: its clever metal roof folds in half to drop down, which makes it more compact to store - allowing for more room in the back and a shorter wheelbase. With the roof up, it's a proper coupe and enjoys the associated refinement, but it still offers an impressively quiet ride with the top down. The more powerful engines struggle to get their power down on the road - but the D5 diesel is a popular choice with its massive torque and decent economy. The C70 is impressively safe - it has 6 airbags (the first cabriolet to have side airbags inflating from the doors), pop-up roll bars and stability control. The main disadvantage is getting hold of one: Volvo have limited the allocation coming in to the UK and waiting lists are therefore racking up, which means virtually no discount.
