New VAUXHALL ASTRAVAN Review:
As it’s name suggests the Astravan is essentially an Astra estate car transformed into a road van. The rear seats and windows have been knocked out to make room for the cargo bay, which has dramatically improved from the last model. Considering it’s a van, the Astravan looks great, has an impressively refined cabin and handles well on the road. It has an almost identical interior to that of the Astra hatchback and is well equipped, even at the entry-level. The driver’s seat and steering wheel are both adjustable making for a comfortable ride. There are four engines to choose from, a 89bhp 1.4 litre petrol engine and three diesels – a 90bhp 1.3 litre, a 100bhp 1.7 litre and a 120bhp 1.9 litre. The Astravan has superb handling and a nimble turning wheel allows for comfortable driving in built-up areas. The maximum payload stands at 650kg while the cargo volume is 1.58 cubic metres. Packed with safety features such as ABS brakes and an ESP system, the Astravan also scored a full five stars on the Euro NCAP crash test. It is also armed with some useful anti-theft devices.
