Advantages: Great off-road ability, high-clas design, large load bay and can double as a family car on the weekend.
Disadvantages: The Amorok is not as agile as you would like it to be, especially when driving around town. It is also quite noisy when driven at high speed.
Summary: It may not be as rugged as some of its counterparts, but the new Volkswagen Amorok certainly brings a touch of class to the pick-up market.
New VOLKSWAGEN AMAROK Review:
The new Volkswagen Amorok is the first pick-up truck to be designed and engineered in Europe, and competes alongside well established brands in the pick-up category.
The Amorok is fitted with Volkswagen’s 2 litre TDI diesel engine, which is easily a match for the larger 2.5 and 3 litre engines of some of its competitors. But surprisingly you can get about 32 mpg which is a lot more economical than most pick-ups.
The cabin is similar to most ofther VW cabins, in that it is almost like driving an enlarged VW Polo or Golf. However where the Amorok really earns its stripes is off-road. The vehicle comes in permanent or switchable 4WD, and features a low ratio gearbox, hill descent control and off-road electronics. Each model comes decked-out with safety features, however it feels as though it has plenty of high body roll when cornering.
