Stepping into a hugely competitive market that includes the likes of the massively successful Ford Transit is the new Volkswagen Transporter. Re-launched in 2003 it is a vast improvement on its predecessor, being stronger, quicker and far better equipped. The cabin is smart, with high quality materials while the dash seems business-like with many of the controls borrowed from Volkswagen’s commercial cars. Two diesel engines and four outputs are available with the Transporter. There is a 85bhp or 104bhp 1.9 TDI and a 130bhp or 174bhp TDI, with the latter recommended for heavier loads. The Volkswagen Transporter handles extremely well, has a pleasant overall performance and holds it’s value better than any of it’s competitors. It has twin rear doors, two sliding doors and comes with the choice or two wheelbases and three roof heights. The cargo weight-load ranges from 834kg to 1297kg while the payload area varies from 5.8 cubic metres to 9.3 cubic metres. The new Volkswagen Transporter comes with a generous amount of safety and security features and with all the components vigorously tested it should prove very reliable too.
