Packed with technology, the BMW 5 series is a formidable contender in the executive market. It sweeps the board with fine handling, good engines and enough technology to keep Silicon Valley content. If you can live with the looks (and they do improve with time) and can work out how to operate the fiddly i-Drive system, this car is nearly flawless on every other level. As ever, the diesel engines are superb and refinement levels are high, as one would expect.
