Hyundai designed the Sonata as an all-American saloon: that's why there's loads of chrome, a high level of equipment and an extremely soft ride. It makes it ideal for endless straight roads without a bend in sight - but unfortunately that's a rarity in the UK, which is a big drawback. It's not that the Sonata won't go round corners, it's just that it hasn't been engineered to do so - and wafts around in comparison to European cars, which are designed for motorists who prefer a more direct and responsive drive. But if that simply doesn't worry you, the Sonata makes a decent car: the petrol and diesel engines produce quite sufficient power and refinement, so passengers can sit back and enjoy the spacious leather seats amongst the generous equipment levels. Prices are reasonably low and reverse auction discounts are healthy, so you can bag a bit of a bargain through AutoeBid.
