Renault gave birth to the concept of the MPV with its revolutionary first Espace launched in the 1980s. It's come a long way since then - and the latest Espace range is aimed at the higher end of the market, even if AutoeBid customers can benefit from such large discounts that it becomes far more attainable. The key strong points are excellent safety ratings, high levels of equipment and some fine diesel engines which are certainly preferable to the petrol units (except perhaps the fiery 2.0T). The most potent diesels represent the best choice - and tie up nicely with a well-balanced and smooth ride. Reliability hasn't always been the Espace's strong point - although the 3 year manufacturer's warranty is valid at any Renault dealer in the UK, which should provide peace of mind. When discounts are so high in the reverse auction, the Grand Espace does represent astounding value for money.
