New DODGE JOURNEY Review:
Dodge is promising families a combination of several cars’ body style with the Journey, a crossover estate that blends seating for seven, the interior space and versatility of a people carrier and the fuel efficiency of a hatchback.

Typical Dodge styling gives the car a bold appearance and the interior is practical and family-friendly.

A 168bhp 2.4 petrol engine is available, but the diesel option, a 138bhp 2.0-litre from VW, will be much more popular. Even if it is not the smoothest or quietest unit around, it feels a bit flat at low revs, and pulls strongly once the turbocharger starts spinning.

A six-speed manual gearbox is standard, whereas a six-speed dual-clutch transmission offering manual or automatic shifts is also available.

Dodge claims the Journey has a sporty demeanour.

As it stands taller than a traditional estate, the car is at its best on major routes, it feels heavy in corners, but copes generally well in brisk progress.

The Journey is a big car, but it is easy to drive in town thanks to light steering. But in another way, the suspension does not limit the body movement very well with the ride having a rather firm edge and the steering not telling much about what's going on.

Dodge has attempted to improve interior quality in the Journey, and it is certainly better than other models like the Caliber and Avenger.

There is no doubt that the Journey's interior is the classiest of any previous Dodge.

The seats are not particularly comfortable or supportive though, a feature particularly noticeable on long journeys. However, even the entry-level Journey comes with a comprehensive level of standard equipment.

Nevertheless, you should still try for a decent discount, especially if you're after a high-spec car.

With seven seats and generous standard equipment levels, the Journey is good value for money. Servicing costs are reasonable and should be around the same as MPVs alternatives.
