Advantages: Revamped and high quality interior, competitive price and the revolutionary engine.

Disadvantages: Styling is cluttered, steering is slack and overall pretty dated.

Summary: The New Fiat Punto Evo is more refined, with a higher quality interior and better value when compared to the old Grande Punto, however the Punto Evo is both looking and feeling increasingly dated.

New FIAT PUNTO EVO Review:
The New Fiat Punto Evo is a newly reworked and modernized version of the old Grande Punto, including a swathe of modifications to help it compete in the ever-growing supermini market.

It is under the bonnet of the New Fiat Punto Evo where the biggest changes are to be found, where the revolutionary new engines - the MuliAir petrol and the MultiJet diesel – have been introduced. Not only are these new engines incredibly efficient but are more powerful than their capacity would lead you to believe. The high-end 1.4-litre turbo produces a very impressive 133bhp while returning close to 60mpg, meanwhile the 1.3 MultiJet diesel (expected to be the big seller) with its 93bhp can return a massive 67.3mpg. These impressive figures are possible thanks to the revolutionary new common rail injection process, with eight individual cycles. The result is an engine that offers a smooth, quiet and fuss-free progress. The New Fiat Punto Evo is not particularly fast however, with 0-60mph taking 13.6seconds and a top speed of only 102mph.

LED running lights and a new honeycomb grill help modernize the look of the New Fiat Punto Evo, but the sleek silhouette of the Grande Punto remains constant.

The interior has been revamped with a much needed boost in quality. The cabin has been refitted with flusher textiles and more technology, including an integrated TomTom system with Blue&Me multimedia as an option, which allows MP3 playback from a USB stick or iPod.

As for handling the New Fiat Punto Evo performs well though the sloppy steering can be frustrating, and although it isn’t as sharp as the Ford Fiesta it should do the job for most owners. The ride itself is wonderfully quieter, much more so than the old model, both in terms of wind and tyre noise.

Overall the New Fiat Punto Evo is a good car at a competitive price, however it is starting to show its age and just feels dated compared to other cars in its class.
