Ford have designed the S-Max with the enthusiastic driver in mind: it's all about getting the balance between stylish looks, a rewarding drive and family requirements. Whilst it doesn't match the Galaxy on practicality, the S-Max does a good job of squeezing in seven seats which helpfully fold into the floor; however the emphasis is on maintaining an athletic profile with a low centre of gravity to protect the handling.
Ford are offering a couple of petrol and diesel engines, which include a perky 2.0-litre diesel and the 2.5 turbocharged petrol from the Focus ST; the latter unit offers great performance and ties up well with the chassis to offer a well-balance and sharp ride. At the same time, refinement levels are exceptional for such a large car and despite the sporty nature the S-Max soaks up the bumps well. Like the Galaxy, airbags cover the interior and safety ratings will undoubtedly be high.
