The Jeep Cherokee has a big character with its all-American image, which might not be to everyone’s liking, but it is very roomy and has generous equipment levels - all of which comes at a reasonable price. With some beefy engines such as the 3.7 V8 which offers well over 200bhp on tap, the Jeep makes good progress, although the manual gear change isn’t the slickest. The dynamic handling is well-tuned for both on- and off-road driving, whilst the ride is comfortable and there's masses of space for the family: it easily seats five and the opening tailgate window is a neat feature.
