Since its launch in 2001, demand for the MINI has outstripped all expectations and nearly a million of them had been sold worldwide by the time it was facelifted at the end of 2006. It's a testimony to the sheer quality of the new MINI package: not only does it resemble the styling of the original, but also offers the same go-kart handling whilst adding an entirely new dimension of quality and 'cool' sophistication. Performance is lively, especially from the supercharged Cooper S, whilst the grip and feel behind the wheel leave rivals trailing.

Residual values and reliability are both high, so the MINI makes a good ownership proposition as well - and whilst dealers offer no discounts whatsoever, you can always save several hundred pounds using AutoeBid's reverse auction (and still buy direct from a MINI dealer). The car's downside is its practicality - but it could never truly mimic the original model without falling short on space; nonetheless there is sufficient room for four and a couple of bags. Don't buy one without checking out AutoeBid's discounts - and you may well save more than the reserve price in the auction itself.
