Advantages: Tough interior, spacious cabin, good payload area.
Disadvantages: Durable materials are not as aesthetically pleasing than rivals.
Summary: Not an up-market pick-up but one that should appeal to those on a budget. Made to last and less expensive to run, also comes along with Toyota’s reputation for reliability.
The new Toyota Hilux is a spacious pick-up, made from durable materials and which represents excellent value for money. Originally, the Toyota Hilux was only available with a 101bhp 2.5 litre diesel engine, however, this has now been upgraded to 120bhp and accompanies a 171bhp 3.0 litre diesel engine. The cargo area will carry over 1000kg while it’s area is similar to that of the Nissan Navara. The newer versions will have air conditioning, ABS, twin airbags, alarm and central locking all as standard. The Toyota Hilux is considerably cheaper to run than other rivals, mostly due to the Japanese carmaker’s low labour costs. The Hilux is also considered one of the most reliable pick-ups on the market. In addition, it returns around 34mpg, which compared to other 4x4s of that size on the road, is quite exceptional.
