The all-new Toyota RAV 4 has stepped up a gear in offering the practicality and space of a 4x4 with the ride and dynamics of a family saloon. The purposeful stance and sleek looks make it an attractive car - and behind the wheel it does not disappoint: the handling is sharp and well balanced and the powerful diesel units make it a joy to drive. The petrol engine does like to be revved hard to tap into the power, whilst the lower powered diesel is quite sufficient and very refined; the top of the range diesel in the T180 feels seriously quick. Build quality is impressive so it should prove hard wearing and the equipment levels are also high, with Sat Nav standard on higher spec models. As for safety, nine airbags come as standard across the range and the Euro NCAP rating should be excellent. Discounts in the reverse auction have been extremely strong right from day one - expect good savings on all models supplied brand new directly from Toyota main dealers on the 06 reg.
