The new Audi A5 coupe will launch in 2017, with the lighter, more stylish model set to rival the new BMW 4 Series.

Already one of the oldest models in the Audi line-up, the new A5 model will be marketed as more of a style-focused model than BMW’s 4 series, and will also add new elements such as an extended wheelbase and extra cabin space to its range of features.

The A5 coupe will shed around 100kg thanks to Audi’s decision to use the A4‘s five-link suspension set-up, giving more the car more agility.

Its engine range will include the latest A4’s set of turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines, alongside 1.6 and 2.0-litre diesel options.

The car will be fitted with petrol and diesel V6s at the top of the conventional A5 range. Those with an eye for green cars could be able to enjoy a plug-in petrol-electric hybrid, using the same 1.4 TFSI engine and electric motor set-up as the A3 Sportback e-tron.

It’s likely that the A5 coupe will keep its subtle side-on profile, with additional headlights and tail-lights of the latest A4. A saloon style will be seen in the cabin, and buyers will have the option of fitting Audi’s Virtual Cockpit instrument panel.
