Finding the right car for a new or growing family can be a time consuming and expensive process. Often it is only after you buy the car that you find you it is difficult getting the pushchair in the boot, or there isn't really space for the front passenger once you have a rear facing car seat in the back, or you can't really get two car seats and an adult in the rear seats. MotorPocket are compiling experiences to create a tool to help families to find a suitable car.

From the responses to date, the Mazda 6, Skoda Octavia and Volkswagen Passat are rated overall best family cars, the latest results from our Finding the Best Family Car survey show.

To create a useful resource we need more families to share their views on the car they have - share your experience by clicking here to complete the survey.

As expected smaller models are rated as least family friendly with the Peugeot 206, Smart Forfour and Vauxhall Corsa ranking lowest so far.

Car safety is the leading feature that families look for when buying a car, which comes as no surprise with the top three most popular models all having earned a 5-star Euro NCAP rating.

The next most important feature in a family car is overall running costs, followed closely by boot space, and fuel efficiency.

Parents are least interested in the quality of in-car entertainment when choosing a family car, instead intentions seem focused on storage and reliability.
