All-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class Prices from £26,855

Prices for the comprehensively new Mercedes C-Class – a car that promises to rewrite the status quo in the luxury junior saloon segment – will start at £26,855 OTR in the UK.

The aggressive pricing strategy means that with AutoeBid’s unique reverse dealer auction model, buyers can get into the S-Class-inspired saloon for the same price as a well-specced Ford Focus.

The first deliveries in June will also coincide with the first sales of the recently announced BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé. Two models – a smooth petrol and a frugal diesel - will be available at launch.

C220 BlueTEC 170hp 70.6mpg 103g/km CO2 £29,365

Of the two, the C200 will be fastest, with a 0-60mph time of 7.5 seconds and top speed of 147mph, while the C220 BlueTEC manages the sprint in 7.7 seconds and tops out at 145mph.

Three specifications are available, starting with ‘SE’ and rising though ‘Sport’ to ‘AMG Line’. Each additional trim level commands roughly a £2,000 premium, while Mercedes’ seven-speed gearbox will cost buyers an extra £1,500 over the standard six-speed manual unit.

Mercedes anticipates that on C-Class SE models the Executive Pack (£995) will be popular, as it includes Garmin Map Pilot Navigation, heated front seats and split folding rear seats.

Sport and AMG Line models will be available with the Driving Assistance Package (£1,495), which includes Distronic Plus, Blind Spot Assist, Pre-safe and Lane-Keeping Assist. Air suspension (£895) and a head-up display (£825) will also be available.

A panoramic glass sunroof, memory front seat, ambient light, keyless go and powered boot closing are included in the Premium Pack (£1,595), while the Premium Plus Pack (£2,795) adds Mercedes’ COMAND Online and a powerful 590-watt Burmester Surround Sound System.

During the course of 2014 several further Mercedes C-Class variants will become available, most notably the C300 BlueTEC Hybrid, which is set to achieve more than 60mpg combined paired with strong performance. The new models are also set to go on sale offered with Mercedes’ new nine-speed gearbox, known as 9G-Tronic.
