Finalists announced for 2016 World Car Awards

The 2016 World Car Awards (WCA) have announced the finalists in all five award categories ahead of the prize-giving ceremony taking place on March 24 at the New York International Auto Show.
In the overall World Car of the Year class, the Jaguar XE and Land Rover Discovery Sport have been named in the 10 finalists.

Other award categories include World Luxury Car of the Year, World Performance Car of the Year, and World Green Car of the Year.
British brands are in the running for four of the five awards, with Jaguar Land Rover picking up six nominations across the awards - more than any other manufacturing group.
When the nominations are split into brands, Jaguar and Land Rover join Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Toyota with three each. Mazda is the only brand with four nominations.
The British brands face competition from several Japanese and German cars, but one brand which has struggled to win over judges is Volkswagen, who failed to get one model placed in the World Car of the Year class following the diesel emissions scandal.
A total of 73 international automotive journalists made up the judging panel, and the nominees for all categories are listed below.
