Price from £44,070, on sale April 2016

The all new BMW M2 goes on sale in April 2016, with less than 500 models allocated to the UK which could make it one of the most desirable cars on the market.

Since its announcement in last year, the M2 has driven plenty of hope that it could be the best BMW model so to date. But how far has it come since its M1 predecessor?

BMW's main focus with the M2 has been to design it for aerodynamic purposes. This can be seen with the M2's ability to go from 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds thanks to a 3-litre, 6-cylinder engine, with M TwinPower Turbo technology that produces 365bhp.

The German car maker say the M2 has: Combined fuel consumption, with six-speed manual gearbox: 8.5 l/100 km ; CO2 emissions combined: 199 g/km; with optional M Double Clutch transmission : 7.9 L/100 km ; CO2 emissions combined: 185 g/km.

The latest-generation of the seven-speed DCT is fitted with the M2. This detects which gear the driver will choose next by calculating the basis of the engine's revs, the accelerator position, the level of acceleration and the driving mode, all before the driver has chance to move the shift paddle.

This results in the clutches only needing to open or close in order for the gear-change process to be executed and completed in under a second.

Drivers will be able to experience smoother journeys thanks to the use of aluminium in the model's body in place of steel. This decision has lifted weight from several areas including the control arms, wheel carriers and axle subframes, making the M2 around 35kg lighter than the BMW M235i.

But the BMW M2 also shines on the outside, with the design standing out as one of the better looking BMWs. The new model has a muscular look to it, as well as small, but effective features from both road cars and the manufacturer's Motorsport past.

The interior is fitted with black leather sports seats with blue stitching, a BMW M logo in the backrests, an M footrest and knee pad on the centre console and instruments with BMW M2-specific dials and needles.
