After selling over 2.64 million units of the first generation, Volkswagen will release the all-wheel drive New Tiguan this year.

The Tiguan is the first Volkswagen Group SUV to be based on the MQB (modular transverse matrix) platform, meaning all of the properties of the Tiguan including body proportions, design and weight will be improved compared to the outgoing car, the latter going down 50kg thanks to the use of high-strength steel.

The interior's design is similar to the current Volkswagen Golf, and it comes with an infotainment system that is compatible with Android and Apple devices. There are a number of safety features on offer too, including emergency city braking and post-collision braking.

It has a range of eight engines that have gained in efficiency, in fact they are up to 24 per cent more fuel-efficient than those of the previous model. Tiguan's new 4MOTION Active Control lets drivers adjust the all-wheel drive system more individually and easier to all possible driving conditions.

Engines for the Tiguan, which is set to compete with the Nissan Qashqai, Mazda CX-, and Renault Kadjar, offer power ranging from 113-237hp, and a starting turbocharged 1.0 litre-three cylinder petrol.

Safety has been boosted with Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring, Lane Assist and the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System plus more are all included as standard.

The upgraded Tiguan will benefit from advanced technology such as automatic accident notification, online traffic and parking space info, vehicle status report. Its on-board electronics integrate Apple and Android smartphones and tablets into the functionality of the infotainment systems via App Connect.
