Skoda have previewed the new Vision S plug-in hybrid SUV concept ahead of its official debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

The Czech brand's new mid-size SUV shares the same base as the new Volkswagen Tiguan, which is due out later in 2016.

Unusually, the concept features six seats across three rows, although the production version is expected to come with the choice of both five and seven seat layouts.

The show car that is set to debut in Geneva next month will feature a 1.4-litre petrol engine that produces 115kW and 250Nm. It will also be coupled to an electric motor that is able to produce 40kW of power and 220Nm of peak torque that controls the front wheels, with the rear wheels driven by a separate electric motor that delivers 85kW and 270Nm.

Skoda claim that the Vision S can reach 62mph in 7.4 seconds, and is capable of gaining a top speed of 124mph, and has C02 emissions rated at 45g/km.

The SUV can travel up to 31 miles on electric power alone, with a combined range of 621 miles. Buyers will have the choice of driving the Vision S in either fully electric mode or in charge mode.

Influences for the design of the Vision S comes from the Skoda Yeti, with styling appearing boxy, but smooth lines around the front allow some independence of its own.

Coming in at 4700mm long by 1910 wide, and standing 1680 in height, the Vision S is longer, wider and lower than its rival the Kia Sorento.

Skoda's new mid-size SUV is expected to take the Kodiaq name for production, and it will be powered by four-cylinder engines that are already fitted with the new Skoda Superb, with a 1.6-litre turbodiesel forming the base engine.

The manufacturer says that a diesel-electric hybrid version will also be offered, and four-wheel drive will be optional on most models.
