Disadvantages: Downsized from the X3, X4 and X5, reducing space, however the X1 still comfortably seats five people with plenty of room to spare.
Summary: The X1 fits in exceptionally well with the small SUV market. Styled like a hatchback, with a sleek designer interior and low running cost.

New BMW X1 Review:
Having recognised the rapidly growing popularity of the environmental motoring market, BMW have added a smaller model to their X range. The X1 is BMW’s first diesel only car, delivering a better fuel economy and lower emissions, making it a BMW for the 21st century. It is much more compact and reasonably priced than BMW’s other SUVs and in addition comes lots of swish items as standard, including adaptive headlights, a panoramic sunroof and a reversing camera. The interior is of a good build quality and is durable too. A rival to Volvo’s XC60, the X1 successfully delivers plenty of space inside. Two versions are available, the four-wheel-drive xDrive and a rear-wheel-drive alternative, the sDrive. The latter of the two is £1,190 cheaper and weighs almost 85kg less, increasing performance, as well as making it more fuel efficient. Undoubtedly, the X1’s strength comes from corning, where the enhanced steering helps to offer sensational grip on and off the road. A firm suspension also means that the X1 guarantees a comfortable and pleasant ride while on long journeys.
