Renault background and Renault deals news

Renault is the 14th top-selling manufacturer in the UK, selling 585,921 cars last year. Their most popular model is the Clio, with over 20,593 cars on this country’s roads. They are on-track to sell even more cars in 2016.

Producing automobiles since late 1897, the Renault corporation was formed in 1899 in France by Louis Renault, his brothers Marcel and Fernand, and two of his friends. The company produces cars, vans, buses, tractors, and trucks. The Renault brothers recognised early the publicity they could be obtained for their vehicles by participation in motor racing. Motor sport has long been recognised as an effective marketing tool for automobile manufacturers, which is why in the late seventies and early eighties, Renault began to involve itself more heavily in motor sport, setting up a dedicated motor sport division called Renault Sport. It won the Le Mans 24 Hours while achieving success in both rallying and Formula One. In 2001, it took over the Benetton F1 team and quickly became very competitive. In 2005, the team won both Constructors' and Drivers' titles. In 2006 Renault repeated its success of the previous year, again claiming both the Constructors' and Drivers' titles.

Renault is currently pioneering environmentally friendly mass mobility, particularly in the form of electric vehicles. All of Renault’s plants have ISO 14001 certification, and the long-term objective is for these plants to manufacture vehicles that are 85%-recycleable.
