Toyota sold 446,880 cars last year, making it the 9th most popular manufacturer in the UK. The Prius has attracted significant attention since its release, and should continue to be a top selling hybrid throughout 2016 and 2017.

Toyota has been widely recognised for the quality of its products and production systems. In 1934, while still a department of Toyota Industries, it created its first engine and in 1936, its first passenger car. It was founded by Kiichiro Toyoda in 1937 as a spin-off from his father's company Toyota Industries to create automobiles. In 1982, the Toyota Motor Company and Toyota Motor Sales merged into one company, the Toyota Motor Corporation. It then started to establish new brands towards the end of ‘80s, such as luxury division Lexus in 1989. Toyota is headquartered in Toyota City and Nagoya, and in Tokyo. In addition to manufacturing automobiles, the company provides financial services through its division Toyota Financial Services and also builds robots. Toyota has been successful because of its determined marketing approach of normality. It is a mass-market operator that makes car that are long-lasting and extremely reliable rather than status symbols. Toyota’s range is one of the largest in the automobile world.

Toyota Motor Corporation’s ecological ambitions extend beyond its impressive arsenal of environmentally friendly vehicles and also past its ISO 14001 certified manufacturing plants. The company is at work bringing electric mobility software, which will seamlessly connect users to public transport and electric vehicle options whilst on the move, to market. The reduction in each individual's carbon footprint is potentially enormous. Almost the entire Toyota model lineup is available equipped the the firm's 'Hybrid Synergy Drive', which reduces emissions significantly. In the UK, Toyota’s Burnaston site features a solar power system that covers 90,000 square metres, saving 2,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year and enough energy to build 7,000 new cars.
